Nagano Name Meaning

Japanese: written 長野 or 永野 both meaning ‘long field’. It is from a very common placename and listed in the Shinsen shōjiroku where its pronunciation is Naganu. The first version occurs mostly in eastern Japan and the second in about equal numbers in western Japan; both are also found in Okinawa. Many bearers are unrelated; some are of Sakanoue Gotō (see Goto ) or Kikuchi descent.
