Mcevilly Family History

Mcevilly Name Meaning

Irish: Anglicized form of Gaelic Mac an Mhílidh ‘son of the knight’ from Gaelic míleadh ‘warrior knight’. In County Mayo and County Cork a family of English origin Gaelicized their name from Staunton to Mac an Mhílidh apparently because of the latter's presumed similarity to the name of their ancestor Milo de Stanton.
