Irish (South Leinster): Anglicized form of Gaelic Ó Bolguidhir ‘descendant of Bolgodhar’, a personal name composed of the elements bolg ‘belly’ + odhar ‘yellow’, ‘sallow’. Perhaps an altered spelling of German Bohlinger or Bolinger.
