Bastion Name Meaning
Southern French: from a diminutive of Bastide, a topographic name from Occitan bastide ‘building’ (Late Latin bastita, feminine singular or neuter plural past participle of bastire ‘to build’, of Germanic origin). The term was used in particular for a number of small fortified villages that were established in the 13th and 14th centuries in Gascony and Perigord and inhabited by free citizens.
