Kalista Family History

Kalista Name Meaning

Czech and Polish: from the medieval western Slavic personal name Kalist, Late Latin Calixtus (from Latin calix ‘cup’, specifically the cup containing the wine of the Christian sacrament). The name was borne by three popes, including a 3rd-century saint (d. 222); it became especially popular in Bohemia among members of a Hussite sect who called themselves Calixtines, referring to Latin calix ‘cup’: they believed that wine as well as bread should be given to the laity in the Eucharist.
