Surnames: NYNNE NYNE NYN NIN BARBER ROOTES FARMER
I first came across the surname Nynne when I found a marriage licence for my ancestor, Thomas BARBER alias NIN of Tunbridge, Kent, bachelor, abt 30 and Mary ROOTES of the same, spinster, abt 25, at own disp. alleged by Edward Clarke of Cheevening, Kent, Dr of Divy. on 11 Oct 1672.

I subsequently traced this Thomas back to Rotherfield in Sussex where the surname is BARBER alias NYNNE (or sometimes spelt NYNE). Sometimes (generally in the 1500's) the surnmame is simply just NYNNE. The earliest date I have is a marriage in Rotherfield, Sussex of John BARBER alias NYNNE to Alice FARMER on 8 Apr 1554. The family were land owners (yeomen) and a left a number of wills which has enabled the family to be put together.

I have found the surname NYNNE to be quite rare in Sussex, mainly found only in Rotherfield and nearby Ticehurst. I would like to hear from anyone who has further knowledge of the name NYNNE (origins??) particularly in Sussex & Kent.
