The thing is, there are no ironclad rules for translating a name. People usually used an "American" name that resembled their original name, so Johannes becomes John, etc.

But there are persons who took on a less obvious first name. I came across a Bernardus Henri, who, in the USA, went by the name of Henry W.

It could be a gradual change as well. I recently came across a Berendina (Dutch birth name) who, once in the USA, used the names of Diena, then Della, Dillie and finally Adelia.

And there are also original names that do not resemble any American name (Krijna being one of them). Then the American name is anybody’s guess…..

What are the details of the Krijna you are looking for? Last name, family members, estimated dob, date of emigration, etc. Maybe we can track her through US census records that way and get her American name.
