Earl “D” Johnson, 88, of Bern Idaho, passed away May 30, 2014, at the Bear Lake Memorial Hospital in Montpelier, Idaho, surrounded by his family. Earl was born July 22, 1925, in Paris, Idaho to Dewey and Mabel Johnson. He grew up in Ovid where he was a member of the legendary “Ovid Baseball Team.” After graduating from Fielding High School, he joined the Navy and served his country for four years. On November 6, 1947, he married Ramona Kunz in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple, and moved to Bern where he was an active member of the community, as well as the Bern Ward. He was hired by the Union Pacific Railroad and worked as a brakeman and conductor until his retirement in 1988.

Earl enjoyed hunting and fishing, and had a great love for his family and people of all ages, as well as animals and nature. He was a true horseman.

Earl is survived by his wife, Ramona, three daughters: Lana Christiansen , Jana Fouladpour, and Earlene (Lynn) Perkes; four grandchildren: Danielle (Zane) Porter, Jamie Vouros, Paul Christiansen, and Luke Perkes. He is also survived by three great grandchildren: Dane, Hobie, and Madeline Porter; and a brother, Larry Johnson (Cheri).

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Donna Fannin Myers and Helen Chilcott.

Services will be held at the Bern Ward LDS Chapel at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 3, 2014. Visitation will be Monday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Schwab-Matthews Mortuary in Montpelier, Idaho, and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. before time of service at the Bern Ward Chapel.
