Hi Marcia,

I have a feeling that at some point they may be connected. In the St. Mary's Church (CofE) Fonds for Adelaide area Thomas Hughes is listed with Paul Hughes and Maria in the original records. He is also born at the same time as a son of Pauls. Paul had settled Con 10, Lot 10 in Adelaide. This was then used to form part of Metcalf and became Con 5, Lot 5. I have been trying to find any church records for Thomas that might show who his parents are, or even a land petition that might show what regiment he might have been in. I have tracked a William Hughes b 1807, wife Sophia Ashdown and children who also lived there until they moved to Michigan. I have everything on him except his parents. I have just found out that Paul may have come from Whitford, Flint, Wales and be the son of Hugh Hughes and Anne. If you go by naming patterns then Paul's father might have been a William Hughes. He names his oldest son William Hughes. I have the St. Mary's Church Fonds here at home and if you need anything looked up I can. I would appreciate having the stuff on Hughes that you have. Maybe someday I will make the connection between our Hughes. They may turn out to be cousins. My email is Thank you so much for your help. Carla
