Italian and Spanish; Portuguese (Epifânio): from a personal name (Italian and Spanish Epifanio Portuguese Epifânio) bestowed in honor of the Christian feast of the Epiphany (January 6th) from Greek Epiphanios (derived from epiphaneia ‘showing manifestation’ itself a derivative of epiphainesthai ‘to appear’). This was given in particular to children born on or around the feast of the Epiphany commemorating the manifestation of the infant Christ to the three Magi.
