from Cleator (Cumb). The name was taken to IoM before 1511 where in at least some cases it acquired the Gaelic patronymic prefix Mac ‘as was the fashion in the 15th and 16th centuries’ (Kneen). Ballacleator (Andreas IoM) means 'Claytor's farm'.
