Chopin Name Meaning
French: nickname for a pugnacious person from Old French chopin ‘violent blow’ (in form a diminutive of chop ‘blow’ Latin colpus from Greek kolaphos). This name also occurred in medieval England (see Chapin ) and was re-introduced there by Huguenot refugees in the 17th century. In some cases probably also an American shortened and altered form of Polish Czopiński unexplained.
