About Ireland, Jameson Distillery Staff Wage and Employment Books, 1862-1969

Historical Context

This collection includes details of staff employed at Jameson distillery between the years 1862 and 1969. They were employed at the original site at which Jameson Irish Whiskey was distilled until 1971.

The origins of the Jameson distillery, the birthplace of Jameson Whiskey, grew out of a site called the Bow Street Distillery in Dublin, established in 1780 by John Jameson. In 1805 he was joined in the enterprise by his son John Jameson II, and members of the Jameson family continued to manage the Distillery until its closure in the 1970’s. Today the Jameson Distillery Bow Street is a popular tourist attraction in Dublin city centre and is open for public access via jamesonwhiskey.com.
