About This Collection

This collection contains death records of German citizens, mostly non-military, who died in areas occupied by Germany during World War II.

The death certificates for these German citizens who died outside of German were recorded in Berlin Civil Registration Office 1, or Standesamt 1. Areas covered by the collection include the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, and areas of Ukraine, Russia, and the Baltics designated 'Eastern Territories' in the records.

You can find the following information in the death entries:

  • Place of issue (often identical to the registry office)
  • Issue date of the certificate
  • Certificate number
  • Name, occupation, residence of the person reporting the death
  • Name, maiden name, occupation, residence, age, place of birth, religion, marital status of the deceased
  • Possibly also: Name of the marital partner
  • Name of the parents of the deceased
  • Place of death
  • Time of death (date and time)
  • Issue date of the certificate
