What’s in the Index
An 1875 law that required counties to register births, marriages, and deaths was repealed in 1876. While some cities required that births and deaths be recorded, statewide registration did not begin until 1919, with compliance growing over the next decade. The original death records from which information was extracted for this index are housed by the Georgia Department of Health and Vital Statistics.
Details listed in the index will vary depending on form type and how completely the form was filled out, but information may include
- birth date
- marital status
- place of death
- date of death
- place of burial
- date of burial
- FHL film number
The FHL film number refers to a microfilm copy of the source held by the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah.
