Greek: from rodi ‘pomegranate’, classical Greek rhoidion, diminutive of rhoia, hence an occupational name for someone who grew or sold pomegranates. Greek: alternatively, a nickname from the Greek dialect word rodo ‘rose’ (classical Greek rhodon). Galician (Rodís): habitational name from any of the places in Galicia called Rodis, in the provinces of Lugo, Pontevedra, and A Coruña.
