Ozark Name Meaning

Origin unidentified. Presumably it from Ozark, name of a region of southern Missouri. Most authorities give the etymology of this region as French aux Arks ‘in the country of the Arkansas Indians’. It could also be from French aux arcs ‘at the bends (i.e. river bends)’.
