In northern England linseed oil obtained from locally grown flax was more common than olive oil. English: possibly a variant of Ollier itself a variant of Hollier or derived from the Old French personal name Oillard (ancient Germanic Odilard Oilard from othil- ‘land possession’ + hard- ‘hard brave’).
