French: from the Old French oblique case of the Germanic personal name Maro, a short form of compound names with the initial element mari, meri ‘famous’. French: habitational name from either of the places so called Indre and Meurthe-et-Moselle. Polish (Maron): from a derivative of the personal name Marek, or alternatively from a Slavic form of the personal name Martin.
