Lovick Family History
Lovick Name Meaning
English (Norfolk): from the Middle English personal name Loveke, Old English Lufeca, a derivative of Lufa (see Love 1), or Leofeca, a derivative of Leofa (see Leaf 2). English: perhaps a habitational name from places in Cumbria and Northumberland called Lowick, or Lowich in Northamptonshire. The first is from Old Norse lauf ‘leaf’ + vík ‘creek’; the second is from the river name Low (possibly from Old English luh ‘pool’) + Old English wic ‘dairy farm’, ‘dwelling’; and the third from an unattested Old English personal name, Luffa, or Luhha + wic. Probably a respelling of Lovik.
