One in Berkshire is named with the Old English female personal name Leofwaru (composed of the elements leof ‘dear’, ‘beloved’ + waru ‘care’) + Old English tun ‘enclosure’, ‘settlement’; one in Lincolnshire has as its first element Old English l?fer ‘rush’, ‘reed’ (see Lever 2). North and South Leverton in Nottinghamshire may contain a river name identical to that in Lear 2.
