Chinese : from the title of an important official in ancient China, the Sikou, who was in charge of criminal investigation and punishment. During the Zhou dynasty (1122–221 bc), the descendants of several Sikou adopted the second character of the title, Kou, as their surname. Chinese : variant of Gao. Cambodian or other Southeast Asian: unexplained.
