Croatian and Slovenian (Klepač): occupational name or nickname from klepač ‘scythe hammerer’ also ‘scythe hammer’ (see 1 above). This surname is rare in Slovenia. Czech and Slovak (Klepáč): from klepáč ‘small water mill’ (a derivative of klepat ‘to tap to clatter’) denoting someone who lived and worked at such a mill. Rusyn (from Slovakia; Klepáč): Slovakized form of Klepach ‘smith’. Polish: very rare variant and an Americanized form of Klepacz ‘smith’.
