Kalich Name Meaning

Altered spelling of German Kahlich, an occupational name for a lime burner (see Kalk, Kalkbrenner). German: topographic name for someone living in a dwelling on piles in a marshy region, from Sorbian kolik, diminutive of kol ‘pile’, ‘stake’. Czech: from kalich ‘chalice’, possibly a nickname for a protestant. Perhaps an altered spelling of Czech or Slovak Kaleš, Kališ (see Kales, Kalis).
