German: from Middle High German trache drache ‘dragon’ hence probably a topographic or habitational name referring to a house distinguished by the sign of a dragon or a nickname for someone with a fierce or fiery temperament. Jewish (Ashkenazic): adoption of Polish: possibly of German origin (see 1 above). Americanized form of Slovenian and Croatian Drač: nickname or topographic name from drač ‘thorn bushes’.
