Italian (Sicily): from a diminutive of carabba ‘wine carrier’ (from Arabic qarabah) or a nickname from a Sicilian bird name, carabbeddu. Italian: from the female personal name Carabella, composed of the elements cara ‘dear’ + bella ‘beautiful’.
