In some cases probably also an Americanized form of Croatian (from Kosovo) Beriš: from a Croatian name of the northern Albanian Berisha clan/tribe (see Berisha ). In some cases probably also an Americanized form of Sorbian Běriš or of its Germanized form Behrisch: from a pet form of the Old Sorbian personal name Běrisław (based on the Old Slavic imperative beri ‘collect’).
