Swiss German (from Oberwil near Büren, Bern canton): probably from a Germanic personal name of the same origin as the Italian. Hungarian (Bándi): habitational name for someone from a place called Bánd in Veszprém county and Marosszék in Transylvania. Indian (Andhra Pradesh): Hindu name, from Telugu ba?n?di ‘carriage’, ‘cart’, based on the name of a Reddy clan.
