Anania Family History
Anania Name Meaning
Southern Italian and Greek (Ananias): from the personal name Anania, Greek Ananias, from Hebrew Hananyah, ‘answered by the Lord’. This was the name of a character mentioned in the New Testament (Acts 5), who was struck dead for lying. Despite this, it was a popular name among early Christians and was borne by several saints venerated in the Greek Orthodox Church. As a Greek name it may be a shortened form of the patronymic Ananiadis.
