Germanized form of Sorbian Lěsk: topographic name for someone who lived in a forest from a diminutive of lěs ‘wood forest’. Germanized form of Sorbian Lěska: nickname or topographic name from lěska ‘hazel stick’ in Upper Sorbian also ‘hazel tree’ or from lěsk (see 2 above).
