Founds Family History

Founds Name Meaning

English: variant of Found with post-medieval excrescent -s which is perhaps a nickname from Middle English founde(n) ‘found’ (Old English funden past participle of findan ‘to find’). Alternatively Found may be a variant of Fone with excrescent -d from Middle English foun faun (Old French foun faon) ‘young animal cub’ especially ‘young fallow deer a fawn’ (see Fones ). However examples of Fond among early bearers in Britain may represent a different surname from Middle English fond ‘foolish silly’ (the modern sense ‘affectionate’ is not known before the 16th century).
