Back to Blog

2021 marks the 50th anniversary of Memorial Day becoming a federal holiday, and Ancestry® invites you to search for free from May 28-31 to find military heroes in your family tree and those who lived through these remarkable chapters in history.

Starting today, we are kicking off a nationwide virtual tribute, which will run through Memorial Day weekend. Join in on the tribute by finding and sharing stories, photos and records of military heroes in your family using #ISaluteFor and tagging Ancestry on Instagram (@Ancestry) and Facebook (@AncestryUS).

“Helping everyone easily discover, craft and connect to their family legacy is core to what we do at Ancestry,” said Deb Liu, President and CEO at Ancestry. “We can become more resilient and bolster hope for the future by learning more about the people who came before us. This Memorial Day, we hope every American will take a moment to connect to the heroes in their personal family trees, honor their sacrifices and make their ancestors’ stories a lasting part of their family legacies.”

Tune in to the “50 Story Salute”
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Memorial Day as a federal holiday, Ancestry also created a “50 Story Salute” -- a joint tribute in partnership with Wounded Warrior Project, The Greatest GENERATIONS Foundation, Combined Arms and Jewish War Veterans. The tribute, going live on Monday, May 31, will honor those who did not make it home with a curated montage of military heroes through time, highlighting powerful stories of strength and hope. Tune in to the Ancestry Instagram, Facebook or YouTube to watch.
