London, Poor Law Removal & Settlement Records - what's this short for?

Any ideas what the abbreviation "a.o." might mean? It's cropping up in some older (1770s) records in connection with someone's employer - e.g. "servant to a.o. Dolan" or "apprentice to a.o. Smith" (geni.com says it stands for "account of").

I assume we don't treat an employer as an "official" and they should therefore be keyed, in which case I guess I leave the Given Name field blank?
