My wife's aunt born in Rochford, Essex, in 1920 always celebrated her birthday on 1st April which both her sister and son can confirm yet we have just obtained her birth certificate which shows a date of birth of 18th April 1920. Is this a mistake by the Registrar? If so why was it not noticed by her mother or father who were both well educated and quite literate?
One indication that it may be an error is that the birth was registered on 22nd April by her mother. Is it likely that she would have taken a 10 mile trip to the registry office by public transport only 4 days after giving birth at home?
Has anyone else come across possible errors such as this?
