I have discovered that my ancestor was illegitimate, due to his fathers name not appearing on his birth certificate, baptism record or marriage certificate.
However, on his birth certificate there is a name written in the father's name box with a line through both first and surnames. It has a note attached with a number and the sognature of the registrar. Has anyone else come across anything like this? I presume there is a reason his name had to be crossed out.
Pity it is such a common name else i may have been able to trace him!
