Caswell d 27 Dec 1864 at Sandusky Ohio. His son Jay Cooke was big help in financing the Civil War for the Union.

William Henry Cooke mentioned above was the son of My Ancestor Edwin NathinalCooke b 26 Feb 1810, Adams, Jefferson Co, New York m 5 Sept 1835 to Eliza Vandercook (b 29 April 1814 New York State) They both d in Salem Marion Co,Oregon h 6 May 1879 and she 21 Aug 1900. I have an autobio that E.N. Cooke wrote in 1875.

My Cooke ancestors thought they were descendants of Francis Cooke of the Mayflower. I believe not. I think their first USA Ancestor is Henry Cook who married Judith Birdsall. I am sure just when the COOK became COOKE. Cook and Cooke seems to be so interchangeable among my ancestors.

Any one else looking into this line?
