He Ate The Cat!
A story told to me by Jack Fox
(Frank is my 2nd great grand uncle and Jack's grandfather)
The times were hard, especially hard in rural Oklahoma in the early 1900's. The people were kind and fair, and sometimes justice was very swift. Often in those days' people traveled on foot and would find a place to rest in the homes of the friendly communities as they journeyed through the farm lands.
This story is about one such occasion. Frank opened his home, to give a place to sleep to a passerby. All seemed to be well until the next day when as Frank worked, the man approached Tracy who was only a small child. He wanted Tracy to come with him. Tracy didn't like the man, he scared him and he wouldn't go. His fear was well founded for the man threatened that if he didn't come he would kill Tracy's pet cat. Tracy fled from the man as fast as his little feet would carry him out to the field in which his father was working.
Frank Fox was a good sized man, not one to be reckoned with, but this traveler was without fear. For as Frank ran back to his home he found the man waiting for him taunting him. Yes he had killed the cat. Tracy was more than a little upset and so was Frank. This man could have done evil to his child, and had killed a beloved animal of the family! How could he just stand there with no remorse! He didn't stand for very long because Frank swung his fist and met his mark. The man went down, and after a couple more blows was a little more humble.
Then he taught him a lesson I'm sure he never forgot! Frank explained, "When animals are killed around here it's for food, not for sport and certainly not to threaten a small child!" So as you may have guessed he made him eat the cat, yep, fur and all!
