Not sure what you are looking for. 1st, Ladino was the language the Sephardic Jews spoke in the Azores (as well as other places). Luiz is often translated to Louis and Mideiros (most likely Mederios) is often translated to Mark in the U.S. The Azoreans (and Portuguese) did not use surnames, or any patronymic naming convention for that matter, so your immigrant ancestor must have selected a surname upon immigration. Common choices from São Miguel were Gracia/Garcia, da Costa, and Coelho (Ladino for Cohen). But it could have been something else too. FYI, New Bedford was a popular destination for Azoreans due to the whaling trade. Many males worked their passage to the U.S. and then sent money for their wives to join them. You did not say the time frame for this immigration. Perhaps you can elaborate a little more.
