Thank you Mitch.
I had a reply all typed out but somehow lost it. When I said that Bessie died in 1932, I was mistaken. She did die in 1924 so she is this Bessie. Her mother Anna had died in The Bronx in 1932. Bessie's father Jakob came out to Los Angeles, probably right after Anna died. I found him living in the Hebrew Sheltering home in 1941 and he died in 1944. I know that ben "something" means son of something but wasn't sure that b. stood for ben. I grew up in a Jewish neighborhood so I got a smattering of Yiddish and Hebrew and the Ashkenazi culture without even realizing it. Jacob and Anna came in late 1922 with two of their sons, a daughter-in-law and a couple of grandkids and joined at least two other sons and Bessie who were already here. It's a very interesting family from the stories I've been told. I'm assuming that Jacob, Bessie's dad was the Yaakov in Yaakov b. Yitzhak and Yitzhak was his father.
