Another thought - are you sure that Etta was widowed rather than divorced or separated? (Despite what the 1940 census says.) I looked at her naturalization papers (at FamilySearch.org), and her 1942 declaration indicates that she is married and that her husband's residence is "unknown". The 1945 petition has "widowed" typed in and then over-struck, and again husband's residence is "unknown".
"Guipitzich" could be Kupiškis, Lithuania, according to the JewishGen Communities Database. There are other possibilities as well, but they sound less like Guipitzich.
