wow, seems to be some interest here - and some people who know how to go about things.

my email is jacoby_10@hotmail.com if you want to contact me directly. My wife has an uncle - Eldarado Claybrooks - who is very up on the family oral history (her mother Lorraine Nixon-Butler knows alot but tends to be not interested in talking to strangers) - her family being mostly Nixon's, Sloans, Claybrooks, and I believe Cook's. Her uncle living in the shack is Ed Nixon - he had his arm ripped off in the gin and the owners "took care of him" after that and he is still very sharp, her uncle who pretty much ran the gin until he died a few years ago was John Nixon, known locally as "Fat", he commanded alot of respect from white and black residents of Blyville. They were the last of the former black "town" residents who still lived there. Eldorado would probably want to call those who have info related to her family. the problem is I am the only one interested in writing everything down, but I just haven't found the time.

Someone should certainly follow up with the the arkansas cemetary board as recommended on one post. The VW suggestion is awesome - there is in fact a section of the black cemetary that included mostly veterans. There are some headstones but most are either overgrown or defaced. There is also a section for baby's, and you can also still find the foundation of the church.

As to the phone for the #9 white cemetary/church - we never stopped there as it didn't apply to us (and at this point in history it may well be racially mixed, including those of mexican descent who now mostly work the plantation). But there has to be a phone to the #9 office - and like I mentioned, if the guy I talked to 2 years ago is still there, he knew everybody and everything, wished I had had a tape recorder. I do believe he would not disrupt the cemetary, my concern is when he is gone, nobody will remember it was there and it will disappear.
