Monongalia county, River Seam Coal Co., Booth mine, George Bishop, injured and died 1925Sep8, nationality American, 35 years mining experience, age 54, occupation timberman, married, survived by a widow and 5 children, 6 total dependents, killed by fall of slate inside mine

A timberman is one who places timber supports in mine workings or shafts for protection against falls from roof, face, or rib.

Slate is a dark shale lying next to the coal beds. It contains impressions of the plant life of distant ages, proving the vegetable origin of coal.

This is all the information that I have on this accident. A newspaper article or death certificate may have more information. See “West Virginia Death Records” to view his death certificate.
