Chapin Mine of Iron Mountain operated from 1880 to 1929, and mined more iron ore than any other mine on Menominee Iron Range, was 2nd-largest mine in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. This is from “Dickinson County, Michigan---From Earliest Times Through the Twenties.”
I did find several references to a Rundle family, and 2 references to a Beard family. ... In the Iron Mountain business directory for 1901, I find a listing for “John Beard, blacksmith” This is from the above book. In a different book, "Born From Iron" there is a picture with caption saying “Josiah Beard ran a blacksmith and wagonmaker’s shop at 113 East Flesheim St.” “Born From Iron” was published in 1979 on occasion of Iron Mountain’s centennial. ... For the Rundle family, there are interesting references to 2 Rundle men. This is taken from “Born From Iron”, page 139: “Thomas B. Rundle came to Iron Mountain in 1880 to be captain of the Chapin Mine.” and a later sentence “A. J. Rundle was the owner and proprietor of the Rundle Opera House, also a hardware merchant.” There are many references to the Rundle Opera House, and the Rundle Hardware which was on the street level, while the opera house was upstairs. There is a photo in the book of that place, but it won’t copy well.
