The family will greet friends from 6-8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home. A Celebration of his life will be at Gert’s Pub and Grub following the church service and reception.

Barry was born in Ft. Knox, Kentucky on August 3, 1947 to Lt. Col Wayne and Leola Cousins. The family moved to Lawton/Ft. Sill in 1956. He attended Lawton Public Schools and graduated from Lawton High School in 1965. He graduated from Southwestern State College with a Bachelor of Science in Economics in 1969. He then attended the University of Oklahoma Law School and graduated in 1972. He began private practice in Lawton in 1972 and later practiced with Doolin, Cude, and South at 802 D Partnership for the next 30 years. In 1982 he was appointed Oklahoma Supreme Court Judge of the Court of Appeals, Temporary Division. In 2001 he took a position as Lawton City Prosecutor, and then he retired in 2007.

Barry served on the Children’s Shelter and YMCA Boards of Lawton for many years.

Barry loved going to the lake and being outdoors. At one point some may have considered him the Mayor of the Schoolhouse Slough. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing, going to the beach and traveling all in company of his family and close friends. He was also an avid OU Football fan. There was never a dull moment in his life, and he cherished every one of them and the people he had around him. Barry Wayne was one-of-a- kind. He will be forever missed and never forgotten.

He is survived by his son, Brandon, of Lawton, three sisters: Marilyn Norris of AL; Lou Ann Crawford of Birmingham, AL; Janice Frakes of Austin, TX; and several nieces and nephews: Sam Norris of AL; Lisa Imbragulio of Birmingham, AL; Laura Crawford of Atlanta, GA; Geoffrey Frakes of Lucas, Tx; Thomas Frakes of Arlington, VA; and Shelley Frakes of Austin, Tx. He was preceded in death by both parents.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at or 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601. We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nursing staff at Cedar Crest Manor Nursing Home in Lawton, OK and Aspire Hospice for their commitment to providing Barry with quality and genuinely sincere care.
