LANESVILLE, MA — Eleanor Kingsley Lawford, died at home in Lanesville on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, at the age of 101 and a half.
Born in New York City, she spent her early childhood in White Plains.
After World War I, she moved to England with her parents and brother. As a young woman, she returned to New York, where she married Rene Albrecht-Carrie, by whom she had two children. She worked in children's books for Scribner's and Teacher's College bookstores.
In 1972 she married Geoffrey Lawford of New York and Folly Cove. She lived with her daughter, Claire Tomlinson in Lanesville for the last seven years. Until a year ago, she could be seen walking around Lanesville with a cane and a companion. She suffered no illness or disabilities.
She is survived by her two children, Claire Tomlinson and Pierre Albrecht-Carrie; four grandchildren, Cybele Tomlinson Bhansali and Ian Tomlinson, Elan and Ethan Albrecht-Carrie; and four great-grandchildren, Kabir and Keenan Bhansali, Leila and Julien Tomlinson and her devoted cat, Tomboy.
ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial gathering will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Lanesville on Oct. 31, 2009.
