SLAUGHTER,, REBECCA (BECKY) WINGO Longtime Dallas resident, formerly of Wills Point, passed away Sunday, July 24, 2005 in Lubbock, Texas. She was born on June 10, 1914, in Wills Point, the youngest of three children born to Grace Belle Jones and William Halbert Wingo. She was a graduate of Wills Point High School and in her senior year she was valedictorian of her class as well as a state doubles tennis champion. After graduating from Texas Women's University in Denton, she taught Latin at Wills Point High School. She married Jack E. Slaughter of Edgewood, TX on June 13, 1940. She was a member of University Park Methodist Church in Dallas for over fifty years. Becky was an avid birder and photographer. Her other interests included reading, ceramics, piano and gardening. She was a member of the American Association of University Women, the Stitch'n Chatter Sewing Group, North Dallas Book Review Club, The Audubon Society, the Trowel and Error Garden Club, Mr. & Mrs. Sunday School Class at U.P.M.C., along with numerous church committees and activities. She is preceded in death by Jack, her beloved husband of 62 years in March, 2002 and her two brothers, David and W.H.(Blitz) Wingo Jr. of Wills Point, TX. She is survived by her four children, Mary Barton and husband, Fred of Littleton, CO, Dorothy Bodden of Lubbock, TX, William "Bill" Wingo Slaughter and wife, Carol of Houston, TX, and Jean Elizabeth Stanka and husband, Dale of Austin, TX; grandchildren, Jim Barton, Scott Barton and wife, Connie of Denver, CO, Beth Bodden Hickman and husband, Jeff of Dallas, TX, Ken Bodden of Burbank, CA, Sally and Ryan Slaughter of Houston, TX, Will and Sam Stanka of Austin, TX; two great-grandsons, Kyle and Lance Barton of Denver, CO; numerous nieces and nephews; and Dallas caregivers, Lillie Lemons and Debra Newman. Services will be held Wednesday, July 27, 2005 at 11:00 Hiett's LyBrand Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point followed by graveside services at Oak Hill Cemetery in Edgewood. TX Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m., preceding the service. Memorials may be made in Becky's memory to the Alzheimer's Association-Research, 225 N.
