Roddy C. Lochala

Mr. Roddy Carter Lochala, 82, of Hamburg AR died Friday, March 2, 2007, at his residence in Hamburg AR. A native and lifelong resident of Hamburg,AR he graduated from Hamburg High School in 1943. He worked at Arkla Gas Company for 25 years until retiring in 1985 and also worked for W. E. Tucker Oil & Butane Company for many years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he was a deacon for over 56 years as well as a Sunday School teacher and a Training Union & youth leader for 30 years.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Pauline Sullivan Lochala of Hamburg AR; two sons, Roddy Allen "Butch" Lochala and wife Patty of Newport and Dr. Richard Mark Lochala and wife Susan of Mena; a sister, Kate Murphy and husband George of Crossett; six grandchildren, Dr. Roddy Smart Lochala and wife Mary Kathryn of Newport, Stephanie Wickliffe and husband Stephen of Tyler, TX, Nathan Lochala of Fayetteville, and Whitney, Joshua & Hannah Lochala, all of Mena AR; two great-grandchildren, Mary Mills Lochala and Abigail Pauline Lochala, both of Newport; and extended family members Hurshel & Anna Ruth Kelley, Jack & Kathryn Shell, John William & Nancy Spivey, Butch & Phyllis Hill and Martha Jones.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roddy M. & Annie Margaret Carter Lochala; and three sisters, Hazel McCaig, Edith Ridenour and Madeline Burks.

Funeral services were planned for 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 6, at the First Baptist Church with Drs. Bobby Pennington and Tommy Cunningham and Revs. Royce Christmas and Jimmy D. Wallace officiating. Burial was to follow services at the Unity Cemetery. Pallbearers were to be Drew Carpenter, Bruce Smith, John Smith, William Smith, Jon Bierbaum, Jack Carpenter, Jr., Johnny Smith, Jimmy Hargis and Jim Atkins. Honorary pallbearers were to be John W. Spivey, Butch Hill, Billy Bierbaum, Carl John Bierbaum, deacons of the First Baptist Church and the members of the Carl Locke Sunday School Class.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 352, Hamburg, AR 71646, Hamburg High School Scholarship Fund, P. O. Box 30, Hamburg, AR 71646, or to the Ashley County Medical Center Foundation, P. O. Box 400, Crossett, AR 71635. Funeral arrangements were by Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home of Hamburg AR.
