Ruth,
I saw your post regarding John O'Drain and Annie O'Drain. They were actually neighbors of my great grandparents (William and Maggie Morford), grandparents (Louis and Cecilia Morford McCloskey), and my dad (William McCloskey - 2 years old) in the 1930 census on Cherry St. (Elfreth's Alley). Patrick O'Drain (Catholic) married Josephine Morford (non-Catholic) some time in the early 1870's, and John was one of their children (10) (as you know). I've never been able to track down their marriage place/date. My grandmother, Cecilia, was given Josephine as her middle name. Josephine must have converted because she was a baptismal sponsor for my grandmother's sister. She is a key part of my Morford search, but I can't find the family earlier than 1870 in Phila. My dad always said the Morford's and O'Drain's were close.
It's frustrating not finding Annie and John marriage as I've found others, mostly in St. Augustine (4th Street). I live close so next time I'm in the neighborhood, I'll check their records. In the meantime, I've had a lot of luck contacting the Fireman's Museum right around the corner from Cherry St. They keep detailed records of all fireman and will search upon request for a donation. Maybe they have something. Check out my tree. It's public.
Bill
