I haven't mentioned the "British Home Children" in a while. But, because of the age of George MANNING, and he first went to Canada, I guessed he might have been a "home child." I just checked one of the BHC data bases, and I find this teen:

Surname: MANNINGGiven Name: GeorgeAge: 15Sex: MShip: CarthaginianYear of Arrival: 1892Departure Port: LiverpoolDeparture Date: 1892-03-17Arrival Port: HalifaxArrival Date: 1892-03-27Party: Barnardo HomesDestination: Toronto, Ontario and Winnipeg, ManitobaComments: 303 children with Mr. OwenNotes: The child's surname was illegible or difficult to decipherSource: Library and Archives CanadaReference: RG 76 C1bMicrofilm: C-4515Type of Record: Passenger Lists

The term, British Home Children, is what was used in Canada after the "over 100,000" unwanted children were shipped there from 1860's to 1940's. Back in the U.K. they were part of the UK's Child Migrant Scheme. And, that scheme took place more like 150 years, and more like 150,000 unwanted children, as thousands were sent to Australia, New Zealand, Africa, etc.

There are many web sites on-line about them. And, there is a BHC List and a BHC Board. And, there is a "Child Migrants UK" List which is not very active.

This is one of the BHC web sites:

The above George MANNING arrived in 1892 as a 15-yr-old, which puts his birth-year about 1877. And, it says he left Liverpool and went to Halifax but his destination was Ontario.

The above BHC data base is very searchable. I just checked and there were 66 children with the name, MANNING. And, if you check whether some of them also came over in the 1890's, there were a few, so possibly a sibling.
