I have just happened upon these bulletin board postings regarding the Chalut family, who are also my family. Following is the direct line that my family descend from.

Jacques Chaliou dit Chateau (married M. Felicite Berthiaume)
 b bet 1690 – 1710 Poitiers, Vienne, Poitou-Charentes, France
 m Nov 12, 1736, Ste-Anne-de-la-Perade, Champlain, Quebec
 d Oct 10, 1746, St. Augustin-de-Desmaures, Quebec

father of
Pierre Jacques Chaliou (married Marie Marguerite Larue dit Desplaines)
 b feb 19, 1737 Ste-Anne-de-la-Pérade, Champlain Cty, Québec, Canada
 m mar 31, 1761, St-Ours, Richelieu, Quebec
 d 1800, Quebec

father of
Francois Marie Chalou (married Marie Pare)
 b Dec 15, 1765 Richelieu, , Quebec, Canada
 m May 14, 1793, Lachine, (Sts-Anges-Gardiens)
 d 1800

father of
Francois Xavier Chaloup (married Marie Angelique Rochon dit Rocheron)
 b Dec 3, 1804 St-Benoît, Québec, Canada
 m Jul 28, 1828, St-Eustache, Quebec
 d Aug 8 1832 St-Benoît, Québec, Canada

father of
 Francois Xavier Chaloup (married Angelique Clement dit Lariviere)
 b Apr 12 1829 St-Benoît, Québec, Canada
 m Nov 26 1849, St. Augustin, Deux Montagnes, Quebec
 d Nov 11, 1904, Hull, Quebec

There were 3 children – Francois Xavier, Louis Damas and Frederic Chaloup -- from this point, Angelique (Rochon) Chaloup (widow) in 1833 marries Andre Brunet, who appears to have been married to (possibly) Xavier’s sister. I know nothing of the last two sons. However, with Andre, she has another 7 sons and the Chaloup family from this time go back and forth between the two names (Chaloup and Brunette) until early in the 19th century when they appear to switch to Brunette. After Xavier’s death in Hull, two of his half brothers, Moses and Arthur Brunette, travel to Hull and accompany the body back to the township of Fitzroy, Carleton County, Ontario for burial.

father of
 Armedos Chalut dit Brunet (married Anne Honora Barnet)
 b Oct 25, 1851
 m May 28, 1872, St. John Chrysostom Church, Arnprior, Ontario
 d Nov 27, 1925

father of
 Mary Ellen Chaloux dit Brunette (married Hugh Patrick McElroy)
 b Jan 26, 1879 Arnprior, Ontario
 m Aug 7, 1899, Hull (Notre-Dame-de-Grace), Quebec
 d approx. 1938, Ottawa, Ontario

If anyone has any information regarding this line, I would be interested in anything. In particular, the name of Andre Brunet's first wife who appears to be a Chaloup, possibly Ester or Ellen. From the entry in the church register deaths, it is very difficult to figure out which is the correct first name.
